1/16/2024 0 Comments North river elementary schoolOur school is named in honor of Lieutenant Colonel Armond Hector DeLalio.Īrmond Hector DeLalio was born in Plainview, New York, on July 17, 1917. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserves on January 15, 1940. He became an aviation cadet, was designated a Naval Aviator, and was commissioned Second Lieutenant on November 1, 1940. In 1941, Lieutenant DeLalio was commended by Admiral Halsey. In 1942, Captain DeLalio was awarded the Navy Cross for his dive bombing performance in the Battle of Midway. He was also awarded two Purple Hearts, Presidential Unit Citation with Ribbon Bar American Defense Service with Base Clasp and Star Asiatic-Pacific Campaign World War II Victory and National Defense Service during his career. In1946, Major DeLalio was designated Helicopter Pilot Number 16. He served in the Marine Corps with distinction in the development of the Marine Aviation Helicopter program. DeLalio Elementary School continues to be proud and eager to serve our military community by providing a nurturing, safe school environment with daily rigorous and engaging educational opportunities for our students. The CSI coordinates and provides staff development opportunities to our staff. Our Continuous School Improvement (CSI) team continues to work toward the standards provided by Cognia. District wide Crisis Management Services are made available when needed. During times of emergency, the swift support and efficient system of the New River Air Station and DeLalio safety staff is evident. The principal of DeLalio feels the challenge is to ensure that the school mission reflects the learning skills and abilities students will need to succeed in a global society. DeLalio students and staff are actively involved in a myriad of events at military functions located at New River and Camp Lejeune as well as community events in the surrounding area. Volunteers provide countless hours to ensure success for all children. The Home/School Partnership program provides for parental and community involvement. Being a school of many diverse cultures greatly enhances student academic and social skills. The importance of providing a stable environment for these children is paramount due to the fact that their parents can be deployed at a moment’s notice, and many of the parents have had multiple deployments during the last few years. There are nine Classroom Teachers, an Advanced Academic Programs & Services (AAPS) Teacher, two Special Education Teachers, an Art Teacher, Physical Education Teacher, Music Teacher, Information Specialist, Strategic Literacy Specialist, School Counselor, Educational Technologist, School Nurse, and six Educational Aides. Some of our students also receive services from a shared School Psychologist, Speech Language Pathologist, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, and/or an ESOL Teacher.ĭeLalio provides a nurturing environment for the military families stationed aboard MCAS. Staffing commonly consists of the following: an Administrator, a Secretary/Registrar, a school-year Office Clerk, a School Support Assistant, three Custodians, and two Food Management employees. The staff at DeLalio Elementary normally serves approximately 130-150 children in grades Pre-K through grade 5. Most military ranks are represented by the families aboard the Air Station, housing for enlisted, officers, civilians, and retirees. DeLalio Elementary is a vital part of the Air Station community and serves as a source of support and social interaction for the families stationed here. It is one of seven schools in the Camp Lejeune Community Schools system and the only school on New River Air Station. DeLalio Elementary School, located on the Marine Corps Air Station at New River, Jacksonville, North Carolina, is a close knit community.
